1750-1914 Q3: Compare and contrast Pan-Africanism with the Indian National Congress movement

Think abou their goals and the methods they used, against whom they were fighting and if they reached their objectives. What did they have in common? What differences emerged?

They both fought for independence/equality/or nationalism.
Pan-Africanism was the idea of all Africans are related to each other. But, while the Pan-africanism wasn't quite successful, the Indian national congress, created to discuss about Indian politic, slowly gained freedom from Britain control

The india National Congress was started by independent leaders and also by Gandhi (Ithink). When The India National Congress had started the British troops were afraid they might actually succed in what they did. Basically both of these groups were searching independence in their countries. The Pan-Africanism was that adia that all Africans were the same because of the colo and how they had to join to fight against their motherland owners. Both of them were pretty succesfull howeer the India Nation Congress was much more successfull because they kind of had the leadership of Gandhi and he amde a nonviolence movement. So these strategies and ideals where bases of the success of the indian National Congress.

The primary goal for both Pan-Africanism and Indian National Congress movement was to get rid of their "mother countries," such as Great Britain, Germany, France, etc. India was more successful than Africa by the lead of Gandhi. Also, I think, india was more develped than Africans since it was the one of the most important colonies of Great Britain which gave them raw materials. So they contacted each other more than other colonies, so develped more than them by adopting new technologies from its mother country.

The Indian National Congress was a group of educated Indians to communicate their views on public affairs to colonial officials while Pan-Africanism was a group of U.S. blacks and Afro-Caribbean intellectuals who thought of themselves as members of a single race. The similarity of both was that at one point they were claiming for equality and anti-racism.

indian national congress- fought agianst the british to reach india to become independent. muhammud ghandi was once part of it, led movements anti-violent. although at first hindus and muslims wouldnt cooperate with each and it still going on. pan-africanism wasnt succesful as indian because they were dealing with more than one country.

pan-africanism wasnt that successfull because it was supposed to unite african countries that dont have similar cultures while the national congress movement in india eventually succeeded after non violent movements in gaining some independence from Britain

The intentions of the Africans when they created Pan-Africanism and Indians when they created the Indian National Congress were to gain independence. While Pan-Africanism focused on uniting all of continental Africa, the Indian National Congress focused on non-violent boycotts and other movements. Pan-Africanism was not successful like the Indian National congress who eventually gained independence from Britian.

To build up African pride, and it is actually incredibly inpacting, but outside forces (AKA whites) opress it.
Even though the "motherlands" were against both of them later, the National Congress was initially created with concent of the British.
Most impacting leaders were natives that were educated outside.
