1450-1750 Q4: Compare and contrast the impact of the Mongols on Russia and China

Think about where they caused the greatest impact and how they affected things like trade, social organization, religion, relations with other countries, gender relations, self-perception and power.

Both societies were able to maintain they're original government style because the Mongols were more interested in conquering then governing.

Also, they both had to pay tribute to the Mongols.

Good response Kyle, and in both cases teh Mongols will adopt certain aspects of their government as their own. Also think about who is in positions of power though.

When the mongols came into power into both countries they had completely changed their government. In China they started a new dynasty known as the (Mrs. Morales please tell me) dynasty. This dynasty had come from the Mongols. The others in russia were still pushing in. The Europeans thought that the mongols were helping them because of them also oging against the Muslims.

The Mongols on Russia, the Golden Horde, didn't allow Russia to develop as the rest of the world did. Also in China Khublai Khan didn't allow the Chinese to 'Mongolize' keeping their own identity.

The impact of the Mongols on Russia and China was that after the Mongol rule, Russia became absolute ruler and on China there was a more centralized government based on traditional Confucian principles, reinstated the civil service examination and reinvigorated Chinese Culture.

In China, the mongols don't kill and opress the intellectuals. They actually use them and their skills to build up their empire. (did they do this in Russia, too??)
